We are all experiencing a global phenomenon unlike any in our lifetimes. Tusubira remains committed to serving our communities to address systemic poverty in Uganda even in these challenging times. It is also a time to celebrate great successes and opportunities in the years ahead established now. While we will continue to provide updates and news about our continued efforts and new projects including an expanding vocational school, new school-site construction, and another year of promising graduates.
COVID-19 in Uganda
The situation for the current coronavirus outbreak is affecting us all - including our community in Uganda. Robert Kalulu the president of our partner organization CEP has personally sacrificed during this time to serve the greater Nawanende community and the students who attend Yana CHS. While Uganda has been under a lockdown for two weeks, Robert and other members of our staff have continued to work to serve the community, using speakers to share health messages (from a distance of course), promoting handwashing, and delivering soap to communities in need. We continue to work with our school partners to brainstorm creative strategies to continue education, health care, and address hunger in the community at a time of crisis.
Crises are a time when poverty and inequality can either be amplified or radically rethought. This is an opportunity to truly address the systemic issues that perpetuate poverty - community-centered education is one of the most powerful ways we can do so.
